Nothing gets me more hype than going out to support a local sports team…sports bring people together and I love watching the CapNY community come together to cheer our very own talent on!
No better way to spark up some CapNY pride than with sports. Here are three sports teams you can enjoy all year ’round indoors! Buy that foam finger, wear that merch, & get your cheerin’ on!
Albany Empire Football
From April to the end of July, you can cheer on our professional arena Albany Empire Football Team (National Arena League (NAL)) at the MVP Arena. Yup, we’re talking the 2021 NAL Champs baby! A fiery & loud crowd, energetic dance team (known as the Albany Empresses), and our very own skilled football pros, recruited from all over the country, makes for a super hype night out in Downtown Albany. We also love to see how active the team is in giving back to our local community, especially during their off season. Reserve your tickets here!

Albany FireWolves Lacrosse
I’ve always been familiar with lacrosse, as my brother played in college and is now a college coach, but “box lacrosse” is super different from the traditional sport. Talk about FAST PACED. Whoa! The Albany FireWolves are a professional box lacrosse team and members of the East Division of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Box lacrosse is rougher and more physical than traditional lacrosse. WAY rougher and more physical! My first game was a pretty cool experience. You know it’s going to be a good time when the team runs out while indoor fireworks are going off. They do a bunch of programming for kids, including lacrosse skill workshops. Their season runs until the end of April, so check out a game before the season ends!

Adirondack Thunder Hockey
Talk about ride or die fans! Adirondack Thunder fans truly #PackTheHouse and bring the heat at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls. The Thunder are proud members of the ECHL, a mid-level professional ice hockey league with teams scattered across the United States and Canada. It’s a tier below the American Hockey League. Gotta love the tenacity of this team. Skilled. Physical. So much heart. Get out there and cheer them on on the ice. Their season runs until mid-April, check out a game!
We can’t forget about our baller college sports teams that bring out those CapNY crowds. Stay tuned for more highlights on indoor spectator sports & keep an eye out for outdoor spring & summer sports starting up soon by following us on all the socials, @GoCapNY!
